Get Free Food and Booze Tomorrow Courtesy of Willie Brown

If you’re looking for an Election Day open bar and free snacks, Mayor-for-life Willie Brown has invited the entire city to John’s Grill tomorrow, where lunch, drinks, and joie de vivre are on him.

As SFist pointed out, Brown dropped his invite casually in yesterday’s “Willie’s World” column in the Chronicle:

We’ll have Ellis Street blocked off from noon to 2 p.m. The food and the drinks are on us and the restaurant. No speeches, no campaigning and no fights.

Who will be there? Political writers, political consultants who overcharge for their mailers, ad buyers, ex-officeholders, current officeholders and officeholder wannabes.

A lot of them will be a bit on the nervous side, waiting for what the Elections Department has to say starting at around 8:45 p.m. For those of us on the sidelines, we’ll enjoy the full two hours.

If yesterday's column is any indication, the District 3 showdown between Aaron Peskin and Supervisor Julie Christensen is on Brown's mind these days, as is allegations of voter fraud in Chinatown.

"It used to be that the public housing projects were where suspicions of voting shenanigans were focused. It’s where all the black folk lived, and of course you know how easy it is to take advantage of them," Brown wrote.

Head to John's Grill tomorrow for more sharp Willie wit and wisdom.

Rosie the Riveter is the feminist icon. Representing the women who filled jobs left by men who went off to fight in World War II, Rosie is renowned all over the world. And on August 15, Richmond will hold a "Rosie Rally" in which the city is calling for 1,000 (or more) women and girls of any age to come together and embrace the Rosie the Riveter in all of us — and break a Guinness World Record in the process.

Eroica: A Chance to Bike As They Did in the in the Early 1900s

Posted By on Fri, Feb 6, 2015 at 10:12 AM

Ever had the desire to live out the legendary Italian cycling racing heritage, from the glory days of pro-cycling, back before EPO and HGH? Want to ride the legendary Strada Bianche in the hills of Tuscany, but don’t want to pony up airfare to get to that fancy gravel? Well, Eroica, perhaps the only vintage bicycling race in the world, is coming to California this April, as the first event of its kind stateside, and if you’re lucky you can still score a spot.

Finally, a Singles Event for the Medical Marijuana Crowd

Posted By on Mon, Oct 27, 2014 at 7:28 AM

We're not sure if the organizers of 420 Rock & Roll Extravaganza were stoned when they sent out a press release with the wrong date attached, but fortunately, the other details seem lucid.

Sponsored by — the only dating site where you can bat eyes at 35,000 other lonely  tokers — this "magical night of food, music, and fun" will cater to medical marijuana users from throughout the Bay Area.

The goal, according to site founder Ryan Moxen, is to get users off their couches and away from their bongs for a night, so that they can have enlightening conversations (hopefully about something other than Phish), and maybe even swap pick-up lines (hopefully not of the "So... do you like, you know, stuff?" variety).

Kinky Haunted House to Pleasure San Francisco Thrill-Seekers

Posted By on Fri, Oct 10, 2014 at 1:32 PM

When you really think about it, Halloween and BDSM aren't that much different: There's plenty of role-playing, lots of thrill-seeking, and, to the prudish folks out there, both might resemble a scene from a horror movie (when the lights are turned on).

Still, if you prefer ball gags to creepy clowns, this Halloween event just might be made for you and yours., the popular San Francisco-based porn studio, is hosting its very first erotic haunted house in the spirit of sex and all things spine-chilling (including sex) this Halloween. An erotic haunted house is precisely what it sounds like a celebration of "Halloween and things that go bump in the night."

Manny Pacquiao Will Descend on AT&T Park Today

Posted By on Fri, Aug 29, 2014 at 7:15 AM

Internationally renowned welterweight champ, Phillipines congressman, part-time singer, actor, basketball mogul, and all-around bon vivant Manny Pacquiao is gracing San Francisco this week to promote his next title fight against Chris Algieri scheduled to take place in China this November.

The bigger news, of course, is that Pacquiao's long-overdue death match with fellow boxing titan Floyd "Money" Mayweather might actually happen in the first six months of 2015. Boxing fans have been waiting years for this high-stakes bout to come to fruition, but the boxers' camps could never agree on the terms — particularly over blood and urine testing to ensure that both boxers were clean.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
