San Francisco police are looking for a silver vehicle that they say is responsible for hitting a 24-year-old woman man and leaving the scene.
On Saturday at about 11:38 p.m., the woman man ran across the 1500 block of Lombard Street, outside the crosswalk, when the driver hit him, said Officer Gordon Shyy.
Authorities announced today that the man who was hit earlier this week by a SamTrans bus while walking in the Outer Mission has died. The Medical Examiner identified the man as 39-year-old Eugenio Mallari of San Francisco.
Just before 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Mallari was walking across Mission Street near Valencia when a bus that was headed from the Transbay Terminal in San Francisco to the Redwood City Caltrain station hit him, authorities said.
If you're reading this at your office, it's too late to alter the means by which you arrived there. So you either did or did not choose to participate in today's inaugural Walk to Work Day.
At first blush, Walk to Work Day sounds a bit like "Enjoy Time at Your Country Home Day" or "Reinvest Your Dividends Day" or even "Skip Work But Get Paid Double Day." These are all things that'd be great to do if you could -- and if you could do it, you'd have done it without being asked.
So while it's admirable that Supervisor John Avalos' staff hoofed the 4.4 miles from Mamá Art Café in the Excelsior to City Hall -- isn't it also incredibly impractical?

If you've been feeling kinda fat and lazy as of late, then today is your day. Not only is it Friday (the last day of the week that you'll have to wait until 5 p.m. to start Happy Hour), but it's also Walk to Work Day, which is exactly what it sounds like.
Today, San Francisco will be the first city in the nation to officially celebrate Walk to Work Day where our city leaders, including Mayor Ed Lee, and hopefully you, will abandon your car, bike, and bus ride and make your way to work with the greenest mode of transportation out there -- your two legs.
And yes, free java is involved.
