Nudist Water Thieves Exposed in Court, Could Face Three Years in Jail

Posted By on Tue, Jul 14, 2015 at 10:23 AM

The owners of a Los Gatos nudist resort accused of stealing water from a creek owned by the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (MROSD) were arraigned yesterday. As Kron 4 reports, Glyn Stout, 77, and his wife, Lori Kay Stout, 53, face a felony count of conspiracy.

The couple own Lupin Lodge, a clothing-optional retreat that offers cabins, “exotic yurts,” and camping under the stars in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

(A digression: The Lodge’s Yelp page makes it sound like a squalid Camp Crystal Lake, only with backed-up toilets and pricey hamburgers. In addition to the frequent mentions of “tweakers and meth heads,” there’s also this gem: “Cats running around everywhere, even saw 3 raccoons which chased me back to my yurt. Then there was this old guy that was gawking at the girls as they walked by. That was creepier than the raccoons.” And also: “One guy was clearly just there to stare at people and try and get ladies to use his hoola hoop [sic] while naked.” And, finally, should you book a stay at the Lodge, come prepared for naked dance parties.)

Now, back to the conspiracy charges.

“This case is about a business who ran out of water last year in the middle of our drought and decided to divert water from their neighbors for their personal use,” said Denise Raabe, deputy district attorney in Santa Clara County.

The Stouts — along with two other defendants — are accused of trespassing on MROSD land to divert water via plastic pipes they’d installed despite the agency’s warning to cease and desist. According to Kron 4, a wildlife camera caught the defendants clearing an old fire trail and toting plastic tubing; at times, the defendants reportedly drove cars onto the district-managed land.

City Pays $20K in Nudist Legal Fees, Reminds You to Keep Your Clothes On

Posted By on Thu, Jun 18, 2015 at 12:55 PM

A friendly reminder from the City Attorney’s office: You still can’t walk around naked in San Francisco.

The office issued a press release yesterday confirming that the city’s ban on public nudity is in full effect. The statement also confirmed that the city paid $20,000 to settle a portion of the legal fees associated with litigation pursued by nudists who argue the city violated their right to free speech and hasn’t enforced the nudity ban consistently.

The ban, approved by the Board of Supervisors in 2012, exempts certain permitted events such as Folsom Street Fair. Local nudist and “body freedom” activist Gypsy Taub (NSFW) has campaigned against the ban from the beginning (she stripped down at a Board of Supervisors meeting and got naked after her nuptials on the steps of City Hall.) Taub and other activists sued the city for violating their First Amendment rights.

Per the City Attorney’s statement yesterday, both parties reached a settlement that includes the city covering $20K of the plaintiffs’ legal fees:

We're confident that we would have prevailed at trial on the remaining factual dispute, but frankly the cost of doing so would have far exceeded the settlement amount...This was a prudent settlement that avoids needless expense to taxpayers, and cost-effectively resolves an evidence-intensive legal sideshow. We are aware that the plaintiffs intend to pursue their facial challenge to the law's constitutionality in the Ninth Circuit, and the City Attorney will continue to defend San Francisco's ordinance aggressively. Bans on public nudity have been longstanding features of municipal codes nationwide, and their constitutionality has been repeatedly affirmed by the courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court.

"Malaysia Nudist Sports Games 2014” Coming to San Francisco (NSFW)

Posted By on Wed, Oct 1, 2014 at 1:03 PM

Believe it or not, public nudity isn't an only-in San Francisco thing. Some 8,370 miles east of us, Malaysians also like to drop trou, for the sake of self-expression.

What's not so hard to believe is that the Malaysian government is even more intolerable of public nudists than San Francisco.

As previously reported, in May of this year, 18 people hosted the “Malaysia Nudist Sports Games 2014” privately on a beach in a National Park in Malaysia. Vdeographers shot some raw footage of the event, which later made its way to the computer screens of the Malaysian government. By August, the Malaysian police were looking to arrest all the participants and were offering reward money in exchange for their (clothed) identities.

Hot San Francisco Weather Inspires Near-Nudity

A boundary-crosser, of sorts... - JIM HERD

San Francisco has a narrow range of weather possibilities. But you get all of it, every day.

That's why everyone's mother here shouted "dress in layers!" as you ran out the door. That's why jeans and a hoodie is applicable 90 percent of the time. Not this last week, however. Going back to July 21, it was 73 degrees or more every day — with a Los Angeles-like weekend

Temperatures are a bit saner today, and figure to stay in the low 70s for the rest of the week. But, thanks to wonders of photography, the Internet, and optic nerves we can relive the glorious insanity afflicted on city residents unaccustomed to what those from elsewhere would refer to as "weather." The gent to the right is, to a point, dressing in layers. Just not nearly enough of them.

Women, too, found time to dress — or undress — in odd fashions befitting our odd weather. To wit:

Muni Passenger Strips Naked, Commutes With Sock on His Penis (Update)

Update: Officer Albie Esparza says the sock-wearing Muni rider was a 19-year-old man. He eventually got dressed and walked away. No arrest was made. KTVU captured video of the incident. Watch below (NSFW)

A ballsy Muni passenger reportedly held up commuters this afternoon when he boarded the 1-California line and decided to strip down on board.

After taking off all his clothing, the unidentified man put a sock on his penis, apparently ready to be shuttled to his destination (also unknown).

According to Paul Rose, spokesman for Muni, the operator stopped the bus and informed the mostly naked man that he had to get dressed.

Castro Nudists Take on the Same Fight With a New Attorney

Gypsy Taub: she will not be moved!
  • Gypsy Taub: she will not be moved!

On Saturday, the local Body Freedom activists, better known as just San Francisco's nudists, held yet another noon rally at Jane Warner Plaza in the Castro. What was more eye-catching than the bare bottoms and uncovered genitals was the shrinking number of people who are shedding their clothes since Supervisor Scott Wiener's ban on public nudity was passed over a year ago.

But for Gypsy Taub and George Davis, unlike their clothes, their passion for public nudity remains.

Davis, who hopes to unseat Wiener in the next election, announced his plans to campaign in New York City and London -- two cities that don't currently have bans on public nudity. In addition to a nudity ban repeal, Davis addressed the cost of housing in the area as part of his campaign, probably to round-out his appeal to at least some voters.

Nudity Ban Protest Takes An Unexpectedly Violent Turn

Posted By on Mon, Feb 3, 2014 at 5:52 PM

  • Inti Gonzalez

On Saturday, self-described Body Freedom activists gathered inside Jane Warner Plaza at Castro and Market to commemorate, and protest against, the 1-year anniversary of San Francisco's public nudity ban.

But the typically peaceful "nude-ins" took an unexpected turn when a cop wrestled a nudist to the ground after refusing to sign a citation officers issued him.

Introduced by openly gay District 8 Supervisor Scott Wiener in 2012, the public nudity ban is meant to clothe the growing tide of nudists who were making it a common occurrence to walk around the neighborhood in the buff.

Neighborhood residents have been sharply divided on this issue. Many have stated that they have no problem with naked people in public and were more concerned with the rising cost of housing in the neighborhoods. But just as many -- if not more -- expressed relief when the ban was passed.

Needless to say, they're not registered at Nordstrom Rack

Wedding bells will ring on Thursday for Gypsy Taub, 44, and Jaymz Smith, 20. The bride and groom had no qualms about selecting their wedding outfits. The couple will be fashionably clad ... in their birthday suits when they tie the knot at 12 p.m. in front of San Francisco City Hall.

And while she will be stark naked, the bride will not be blushing.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
