BART Uses Prince To Self-Promote; Called Out, Apologizes

Posted By on Fri, Apr 22, 2016 at 10:04 AM

When you’re used to seeing headlines about yourself like this, it’s easy to get carried away and think you can do no wrong. That appeared to be BART’s affliction yesterday in the wake of the abrupt death of Prince.

Most of the world is devastated and sharing in the love for one of music’s biggest presences — millions of tweets so far prove it. So someone over at BART apparently decided to get in on the, well, online traffic it seems. We’re imagining the text messages went something like this:

Greatest BART Annoyances (Worse than Seat Hogs)

The only thing more popular than riding BART is complaining about riding BART.

It’s never on time. It’s crowded. It’s slow. It’s loud. It smells. It’s expensive. It doesn’t run late enough. The AC doesn’t work. The heater doesn’t work. And so on and so forth.

But maybe the chief beef is complaining about other riders and how they just don’t give a crap about other riders. Oh, and if you’re the San Francisco Chronicle’s resident right-wing columnist, homeless people on trains might as well be terrorists.

So, BART’s board of directors is considering outlawing the occupation of more than one seat on a train. On Thursday, most of the debate about the proposal centered on boring stuff like the language of the ordinance and whether BART police would enforce the rule on less crowded trains.

No action was taken. But it’s easy to see why this has reached the board, as taking up extra seats is annoying. Is it the most annoying thing riders have to deal with though? Let’s take a look, courtesy of our friends at BART Idiots Hall of Fame.

Guy Sitting on BART Tracks Inspires a Handy Refresher on BART Safety

Posted By on Thu, Sep 11, 2014 at 12:53 PM

It seems as of late we're spending more time waiting for BART than riding it. It's definitely not a figment of our typically strange imaginations.

Last Friday, for instance, there was a long-ass delay in San Francisco, thanks to some kind of "police activity" at the 24th Station. Turns out, that police action was just a screaming dude sitting on the tracks for reasons unknown.

We only know this after coming across this YouTube video which shows the guy in plaid demonstrating exactly what not to do on BART (hint don't get on the tracks and don't touch the forbidden third rail which has 1000 volts of electricity will likely electrocute you.)

Random Guy Thinks BART Train Is His Personal Gym

Posted By on Wed, Aug 20, 2014 at 12:57 PM

All you 24-Hour Fitness fools (us included) have been shelling out for gym memberships when all along there's been a much cheaper way to cram in a set of crunches between work and dinner.

For one too many passengers, BART has become their makeshift bathrooms and bedrooms, and now apparently their gyms, too. This guy was spotted on the disgusting floor of a BART train recently breaking a sweat for all to see.

While most people spend their commute reading quietly, picking their nose/grooming, or getting laid, this group of very loud bros took to the aisles of BART and entertained themselves with an activity typically reserved for rock concerts and festivals.

Crowd surfing on BART isn't something we see often, or at all for that matter, but after watching this video, we do think it's the perfect show for BART -- a venue hosting free entertainment all day long.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
