You Should Adopt These Puppies Named After Giants Players

Posted By on Wed, Oct 22, 2014 at 1:11 PM

There's really no better way to cajole a Giants fan into adopting a homeless puppy than to name said puppy after after their favorite Giants player.

Needless to say, the Monterey County SPCA has created a canine version of their own World Series team, naming a bunch of dogs who were found ditched in a parked vehicle after Giants players, including Panda, Posey, Pence, Crawford, Brandon, Madison, Romo, Hudson, and Vogelsong, to name a few.

Posted By on Wed, Oct 1, 2014 at 3:55 PM

Here you go: a warm image of man and his best friend to cleanse your news palate.

Luke Robinson and his Great Pyrenees, Indiana, are taking the longest dog walk ever — from Canada to the Mexico border, and talking to people along the way about canine cancer. On Wednesday, the pair stopped in San Francisco, enjoying the October heat wave in Dolores Park.

Amid all the horrible things going on — police shootings, ferry strikes, and government spying — some delightful things did happen.

For instance, these baby pink flamingos were unveiled at the San Francisco Zoo.

1968 BART Promo Video Romanticizes a Crappy Commute

Believe it or not, there was a time when BART was all things wonderful: clean, spacious, and right on time.

Sadly, you can now only experience such luxury in this 1968 promotional video of BART, which gives riders-to-be a 12-minute glimpse of the Bay Area's future "frequent, fast, and reliable" commute.

The retro footage, which resurfaced on Reddit this week, shows some rather charming scenes, including what Bay Bridge traffic jams looked like 40 years ago. Also worth noting are the dated narratives used to describe a BART system that we'll never know:  "a remarkably handsome piece of work"; "comfortable and spacious"; "most beautiful system in the world"; "contributing to the harmony of the area"; "frequent, fast and reliable."

Now for the video:

Turns out all the sad press black cats got leading up to Black Cat Appreciation Day earlier this week struck a chord with a sensitive someone who also happens to have a nice chunk of change (your favorite kind of person!).

The Peninsula Humane Society was handing out free black cats over the weekend in honor of Black Cat Appreciation Day, a holiday aimed to undo stereotypes of black cats and show just how lucky they really are. The campaign worked so well that it not only found homes for 14 black cats, but it inspired an anonymous donor to drop the shelter enough cash to extend the black cat giveaway through the end of the month.

SPCA Warns of Local Pups Getting Paws Stuck in BART Escalators

Headed to Macy's - YOUTUBE/SAXMOVIES08
Last week, we posted an amusing yet necessary video from BART (featuring Queen and David Bowie) aimed to help passengers avoid getting their Crocs caught in escalators or worse — falling onto the tracks.

An d if humans don't seem to get it, how can you expect their dogs to?

The SPCA is claiming that one too many pups are being rushed to emergency rooms due to paw-related injuries from escalators. In other words, pet guardians are doing a shoddy job at keeping their animals safe while on moving stairs.

You think your three-legged dog has it rough? Have it try being a black cat stuck at the SPCA for a day.

Life as a dark-furred feline isn't easy, as black cats tend to be routinely passed up at the pound.

That's why some kind-hearted someone out there invented "Black Cat Appreciation Day" and it's coming up Aug. 17. In honor of that cat holiday, the Peninsula Humane Society is giving away adult black cats for free all weekend long.

104 Year-Old Woman Attends First Giants Game

Posted By on Thu, Jul 31, 2014 at 7:04 AM

Just a week after we heard about the local teen who got his long-time wish granted, when he rode BART for the first time, another adorable news bulletin came over the transom.

A 104 year-old woman attended her first Giants game Wednesday at AT&T Park, and consumed her first platter of garlic fries, according to a tweet from KTVU reporter Fred Inglis. Captured on a grainy stadium monitor, she appears to be decked out in Giants paraphernalia, partaking in all the timeworn traditions of America's favorite pastime.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
