Greatest BART Annoyances (Worse than Seat Hogs)

The only thing more popular than riding BART is complaining about riding BART.

It’s never on time. It’s crowded. It’s slow. It’s loud. It smells. It’s expensive. It doesn’t run late enough. The AC doesn’t work. The heater doesn’t work. And so on and so forth.

But maybe the chief beef is complaining about other riders and how they just don’t give a crap about other riders. Oh, and if you’re the San Francisco Chronicle’s resident right-wing columnist, homeless people on trains might as well be terrorists.

So, BART’s board of directors is considering outlawing the occupation of more than one seat on a train. On Thursday, most of the debate about the proposal centered on boring stuff like the language of the ordinance and whether BART police would enforce the rule on less crowded trains.

No action was taken. But it’s easy to see why this has reached the board, as taking up extra seats is annoying. Is it the most annoying thing riders have to deal with though? Let’s take a look, courtesy of our friends at BART Idiots Hall of Fame.

What kind of fine would this behavior warrant? Actually, jail time wouldn’t be out of the question (he’s also taking up more than one seat on a crowded train!).

Don’t mind me, just chillin’.

Let’s fine him for his sloppy handling of the joint.

BART as trash can, back in the carpet days (maybe BART itself should be fined for having carpeted floors for so long?)

Here, this is a practical citation target. The Upstreamers: Taking the train backwards in hopes of actually being able to board? What kind of sick society is this?

Pole dance practice on your commute (no, it’s not cute or sexy).

We can’t think of anything worse than this infamous incident, no matter what time of day you’re riding. Sadly, these people are closer to procreating than most of us.

Bringing your own seat on the train (yes, this is a big thing).

Bicyclists are sometimes annoying on BART, just like they are sometimes annoying no matter where they are.

Currently, everyone’s favorite complaint is backpacks and how offensive they are. Sure, it might be weird to be a grown adult still using a backpack, but they are so handy for carrying things. For many folks, this kind of scene is their own personal Dante’s Inferno.

Here’s a nice roundup of all the things that make BART riders cringe. Sometimes it’s nice when a big overseas publication discovers your regional transit system.

And lastly, we leave you with this (although we’re not quite sure if it’s annoying or perhaps the greatest seat hack in the history of public transit). You be the judge.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
