A carjacking suspect who threatened to jump from the third story of a South of Market building was successfully talked off the ledge into safety, San Francisco police said on Wednesday evening.

As of 6:11 p.m., the still-unidentified is now in custody, according to Officer Grace Gatpandan, a police spokeswoman.

Earlier, the unidentified man was dangling from a third-story window on 10th Street and threatening to jump.

According to the San Francisco Examiner, he was stopped by California Highway Patrol officers who discovered the Toyota SUV he was driving was stolen. He fled from the curb at Bryant and Dore streets, at 2:41 p.m., and ran into a nearby building on 10th Street, where he hung his body halfway out a window.

Negotiations to stop him from jumping  took several hours.

Earlier, 10th Street between Harrison and Folsom streets were blocked off. No word yet if the road will soon be cleared.
