Sierra disappeared as she walked from her house to her bus stop on the morning of March 16, 2012. A few days later, police found her Juicy bag and cellphone on the side of the roadway, in the opposite direction from her  bus stop. They concluded she had been kidnapped and murdered after they found her DNA inside a red Jetta belonging to Antolin Garcia-Torres, a local clerk at Safeway.

They also found his DNA on her clothing that was inside her Juicy bag.
