The family of 15-year-old
Sierra LaMar announced they will end the weekly searches for the South Bay teen who disappeared while walking to her school bus three years ago.
According to the
Klaas Kids Foundation, which was assisting in the weekly searches, LaMar's family will hold a final search on Saturday, which coincides with the three-year anniversary of her disappearance. “It will be a sad day, but we are so grateful to all the people who have shown such incredible support during these 3-years of searches,” said Sierra’s father
Steve LaMar.
Sierra disappeared as she walked from her house to her bus stop on the morning of March 16, 2012. A few days later, police found her Juicy bag and cellphone on the side of the roadway, in the opposite direction from her bus stop. They concluded she had been kidnapped and murdered after they found her DNA inside a
red Jetta belonging to
Antolin Garcia-Torres, a local clerk at Safeway.
They also found his DNA on her clothing that was inside her Juicy bag.
