San Francisco beat the country’s — and its own — record for highest rent cost again during February, according to a rental search company report.

The cost for a one-bedroom apartment rose to $3,460 last month, up from $3,410 in January. Home a rental search site Zumper released the report this week and credited the “rapid influx of population and capital” for the steady increases.

Another Assault at Toad Hall During a Protest For LGBT People of Color

For the second time in six weeks, Castro gay bar Toad Hall was the site of hostile pushback against a peaceful #BlackLivesMatter and #TransLivesMatter protest. On Saturday, February 28, a rally against violence began at Jane Warner Plaza at 2 p.m. and morphed into a march that culminated outside the 18th Street bar. Organized by the Harvey Milk Democratic Club, it drew well-known speakers, including as Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi. (I was present for the first hour, but left before the march began.)

Regrettably, even anti-violence marches can turn violent, and as the crowds thinned, a Toad Hall staff member physically and verbally assaulted transgender Latina activist Danielle Castro on the sidewalk.

Castro sits on the SF Human Rights Commission’s LGBT Action Committee and is also the founder of TAJA’s Coalition, an organization dedicated to trans issues such as affordable housing. (The name refers to Taja DeJesus, a transwoman who was murdered on February 1, but is also an acronym for “Trans* Activists for Justice and Accountability Coalition.”) As I did not witness the incident after the march, I spoke with her by phone. An email to Toad Hall asking for comment went unreturned.

Hidden Cash has resurfaced today after starting an indiegogo campaign to help raise the $30,000 needed to replace Ranjit Steiner's blade-style prosthetic that was snatched from his car in the Mission District this week.

According to the campaign, Steiner, a paralympian sprinter, left his running leg in the backseat of his car along with his laptop and briefcase. All three of the items were taken when he car was broken into earlier this week.  He needs it to compete in next year’s games in Rio De Janeiro. Without his leg, he can't do his sprint workouts.

Per the campaign:

Community members are scrambling to collect cash on behalf of 36-year-old Taja DeJesus who was found stabbed to death in a stairway outside a Bayview building four weeks ago.

To date, they've raised more than $3,400 of the $10,000 goal; any excess money will go toward a fund to help cover the costs of other transgender women of color who are killed.  "We hate that we know this fund will be necessary, but, unfortunately, we know it will be. So please keep contributing and sharing even if we surpass our goal. All trans women of color deserve to pass in dignity and honor," the memorial page reads

In addition to providing recent Bay Area transplants a glimpse of what San Francisco was like in the '90s, Oakland is an example of real racial diversity.

At about one-quarter black, white, and Latino — with Asians comprising about 17 percent of the population — Oakland is the definition of a melting pot in America.

But not when it comes to marijuana crime.

In 2011, 87.5 percent of the people arrested or given citations for marijuana crime in Oakland were black or Latino, according to the East Bay Express. That figure was more depressing in 2013, the most recent data available, when 91.6 percent of people busted for pot were black or brown.

Still, that's not the worst racial disparity for weed arrests in the Bay Area.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
