Suspicious Package Turns Out to Be Suitcase Full of Body Parts

Update: Officer Grace Gatpandan says the cops have identified a "person of interest" in this homicide. She released the following statement:
At approximately 4:14pm Officers responded to the area of 11th Street between Market and Mission regarding a suspicious package. Responding officers immediately shut down the area to vehicular and pedestrian traffic as a precautionary measure. Upon further investigation, it was discovered this package was a suitcase containing possible human/animal remains. The surrounding area was canvased and more remains were located. The Medical Examiner has confirmed that the remains are in fact human, however it is unclear at this time if all the remains belong to one victim. 11th Street was shut down from Market to Howard, and on Mission Street from Van Ness to 10th Street. Homicide investigators are on scene handling. This incident brings San Francisco's homicide rate to 10 for 2015. Suspect description will be given once more information is available; Officers were able to obtain a preliminary distinct suspect description, however this will not be released as officers are actively attempting to locate this particular person of interest. The exact time the suitcase was brought to 11th Street is under investigation and will be released at a later time

Update: The suspicious package found on 11th street was discovered to be a suitcase containing body parts, according to SFGate. Police are still searching the area in SoMa to see if they can locate other body parts of the victim. We'll update you when we know more.

Original story, 5:08 p.m.: We just got word from San Francisco police that a suspicious package was located on 11th Street this afternoon.

The cops have closed down 11th street from Market to Mission to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
