To some people, smoking marijuana is a sport. Then there are those yoga types who consider downward dog the finest high around.

And then there's Ganja Yoga, which combines pot smoking and yoga, both of which are inarguably meditative.

Though cannabis has long been associated with meditation, Dee Dussault , a yoga, tantra, and sex educator who founded Ganja Yoga, says her classes are the first to offer a blend of herb and yoga outside of India. She first started teaching the classes in Toronto in 2009, and now offers them multiple times a day in SoMa. In a San Francisco Chronicle story today, she emphasized cannabis as a route to spiritual awakening:

We Took a Tour of Oasis, San Francisco's New Drag Club

It's true that San Francisco has been standing by watching on average two gay bars per year close its doors, with the most recent one being the Lexington Club. But all this loss has inspired some good news on the corner of Folsom and 11th Street. Drag performers Heklina and D’Arcy Drollinger will be opening Oasis to the hordes on New Year’s Eve, working on Christmas Day in order to get it done.

The duo, who have been friends and colleagues for 25 years, has been working with two other partners to start a new drag club for the last two years. “We looked at many venues, all over the place,” Drollinger said, “and although each of us looked good, as a group we had never run a club or a business like this, so we were outbid at a lot of places.”

There are some cycling/pedestrian accidents that no Vision Zero plan can prevent. Such as a wayward deer on a mission.

Take a look at this video posted by local cyclist Silas Patlove who was pedaling down Alexander Avenue in Sausalito recently when when a good-sized deer darted in front of him, tossing him off his bike.

49ers Sack Ray McDonald in Light of Sexual Assault Claims

The 49ers have ejected defensive lineman Ray McDonald following new sexual assault allegations that surfaced earlier this week.

On Tuesday, police served a search warrant to the player's Silver Creek Valley home, after receiving reports from an alleged assault victim at a local hospital. This investigation came months after the Santa Clara District Attorney's Office decided it didn't have enough evidence to prosecute McDonald on domestic violence charges involving his pregnant fiance.

All of that suggests the team may be taking a harder line on assault and domestic violence charges, or at least attempting to cover itself at a time when the NFL is getting widely excoriated for its lax stance on such crimes.

Of course, we'd probably have more fun watching the nutcracker circle San Francisco looking for parking. But alas, we wouldn't wish that Christmas nightmare upon anyone, not even the Mouse King.

So here it is, a video of the nutcracker riding BART to work:

  • Oakland police wait for the action outside City Hall.
After receiving multiple reports that Oakland students will stage another anti-police brutality walkout today, school superintendent Antwan Wilson tried to preempt the protest by robo-calling their parents.

In a message left on voicemails throughout the district last night, Wilson said that, while the district encourages students to express their opinions on racism and police accountability, they'd do better to air those sentiments in a classroom setting.

"We want students to do this in an environment where they're safe, and where their future prospects aren't compromised," Oakland Unified School District spokesman Troy Flint says. "That's in school and not on the streets."

Posted By on Wed, Dec 17, 2014 at 9:04 AM

Medical authorities say it was 20-year-old Joseph Lilly who was killed yesterday afternoon when he crashed into a pole during a police chase on the Bay Bridge.

According to police, Lilly, a San Leandro resident, was speeding toward the toll plaza yesterday afternoon with no license plate on his vehicle; when a CHP officer attempted to stop him, Lilly allegedly sped off, leading police on a short pursuit back-and-forth on the bridge.

As he was headed westbound, Lilly exited the bridge at Treasure Island, turned around, and started driving toward Oakland at a high rate of speed, says CHP Officer Vu Williams.

Police are out investigating what appears to be another firebug on the loose.

According to Sgt. Monica MacDonald, four cars were set on fire early this morning, all within a Muni stop (or walking distance) from each other. The first one occurred at 4:12 a.m. at Cumberland and Church streets; about 30 minutes later, officers were called out to 17th and Church streets regarding a truck on fire. While they were still investigating that arson, another car was set ablaze just 15 minutes later at Liberty and Hayburn streets.

Uber's spying scandal proves the Silicon Valley darling is no stranger to shady behavior. Neither is Travis Kalanick, it turns out: The Uber CEO has his very own stalker.

A "deeply disturbed" disbarred San Francisco lawyer with substance abuse problems and "possible military training" has unnerved Kalanick enough for the tycoon to seek a judge's protection, according to court records.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
