Update 4:54 p.m.: CHP Officer Vu Williams says the cops are opening up the Treasure Island westbound exit now after a motorcylist crashed and died during a police chase across the Bay Bridge. According to police, the motorcyclist was speeding on Interstate 80 and had no license plates. When an officer attempted to stop him, he sped off, leading police on a chase through the toll plaza into San Francisco. The driver then exited the freeway at Treasure Island and turned back heading east on the Bridge. Police eventually lost him and put out a description of the motorist. Another CHP cop spotted the suspect at the entrance of Treasure Island; when he attempted to pull him over, the suspect took off again and crashed into the concrete wall between the westbound and eastbound ramps. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Update 3:25 p.m.: Officer Vu Williams tells us there was a pursuit on Treasure Island that led to a collision involving a motorcycle. The westbound Treasure Island offramp from the Bay Bridge is still closed while police investigate the incident. Vu didn't have any more information at this time, but said the collision resulted in a "major injury."
If you're headed toward the Bay Bridge, turn back now. The California Highway Patrol is reporting some closures along the bridge around Treasure Island due to "police activity."
CHP officials in San Francisco couldn't give us any information at this time or details of that police activity, but they fired off the following tweet just now:
We'll tell you more when we know more.
