Lights Go Out at Powell Street Station, Commuters in the Dark

Michael Barba Oct 3, 2014 9:04 AM
UPDATE: The lights are back on at Powell Station after a brief outage between 8:30 and 9 a.m. this morning."There was a light issue at Powell," said SFMTA spokesperson Paul Rose. "Bart had to send in engineers to fix them." At this point, Rose could not say why the incident occurred, but service continued through the blackout.

Original story: BART and Muni riders were spooked when a power outage abruptly darkened Powell Station this morning.

It doesn't appear the power loss affected service, as Twitter users reported that BART trains were still running through the station, and Muni tweeted that service was not hindered by the darkness.

No word on what caused this blackout, but we put in a call to a SFMTA spokesperson, who was not immediately available for comment. We will tell you more when we know more. Until then, try to stay awake if you're waiting for the train at Powell.
