"Malaysia Nudist Sports Games 2014” Coming to San Francisco (NSFW)

Believe it or not, public nudity isn't an only-in San Francisco thing. Some 8,370 miles east of us, Malaysians also like to drop trou, for the sake of self-expression.

What's not so hard to believe is that the Malaysian government is even more intolerable of public nudists than San Francisco.

As previously reported, in May of this year, 18 people hosted the “Malaysia Nudist Sports Games 2014” privately on a beach in a National Park in Malaysia. Vdeographers shot some raw footage of the event, which later made its way to the computer screens of the Malaysian government. By August, the Malaysian police were looking to arrest all the participants and were offering reward money in exchange for their (clothed) identities.

Since then, it's been widely reported that several Malaysian participants were arrested and threatened with five-year prison sentences. As of Aug. 29, five were sentenced to 30 days in jail, plus a fine. In addition, the videographer got six months for “distribution and possession of pornographic material.”

And nudists in San Francisco are offended. To call more attention to the need to be naked, San Francisco nudists are hosting their own version of the “Malaysian Nude Beach Games" this weekend at Baker Beach — a well-known nudist beach in the city.

"We will keep the name until such time as the games can be held again in Malaysia without police harassment," San Francisco nudists said in a statement. "The intent of the Malaysian nude beach games is to have fun and make an international statement against police state harassment of nudists."

If you're interested the events for Saturday's nude beach games are as follows:
  • 100 Meter Run
  • 500 Meter Run
  • 50 Meter “crabwalk” race
  • 100 Meter paired “wheelbarrow” race
  • Sumo Wrestling
  • Greco (Roman Wrestling)
  • Javelin Throw
  • Broad Jump
  • Discus (Frisbee)– distance event
  • Tug-of-War (if someone shows up with a suitable rope!)
  • Beach Volleyball
Afterward, you are invited to join others in the body painting competition, then toast to nude people (and athletes) everywhere.

Winners of each event will get what they've always wanted: a nice certificate with a photo of the Malaysian flag. Note: all participants must be completely naked to play.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
