San Francisco police helped arrest a Florida fugitive who has been wanted for the murder of a Palm Beach prostitute in 1995.

On March 19, 1995, 32-year-old Shirley Laseter, was found dead on the corner of Old State Road 80 and Duda Road, Belle Glade in Florida. Investigators combed the scene and found a 5-gallon bucket of dirt and an unused condom next to her body.

They quickly determined that she had been murdered and died from blunt force trauma to her head.

A few days later, a doctor reported to police that a man by the name of Antonio Calvillo had come into his clinic complaining of an injury to his groin area. He claimed to have gotten into a fight with some men, but the medical examination revealed that his penis had been bitten and skin was torn off. There were clear teeth marks, according to police reports.

The lead gave police enough information to track down Calvillo, who was living about two or so miles from the crime scene.

Calvillo was brought into the police department and interviewed; evidence was collected from his car, including a bandanna with blood on it and a condom. Although Calvillo denied he had known the victim or solicited prostitutes, tests came back revealing the blood on the bandanna matched the victim's.

Before police had the chance to arrest him, Calvillo fled to Mexico.

In September 2014, Florida detectives revisited cold case warrants and located an Antonio Calvillo living in San Francisco. Detectives from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office traveled to San Francisco and partnered with detectives here to find Calvillo. Together, Palm Beach and San Francisco officers tracked down Antonio Calvillo at his residence, 150 Berry Street, # 315, in San Francisco.

On Monday, Sept. 15, Calvillo was finally taken into custody for allegedly killing Shirley Laseter. Calvillo was booked into the San Francisco Jail where he is awaiting his extradition hearing.

Detectives believe Calvillo may have been a suspect in other homicides that occurred between 1991 and 1995. So if you have information about Antonio Calvillo, please contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS.
