Glasshole Speaker Series Commences Tonight

Posted By on Thu, Aug 21, 2014 at 3:59 PM

Not speaking in the city tonight. - GARY SHTEYNGART
There's a joke about libertarians or vegans or the gluten free: How do you know someone's libertarian/vegan/gluten free? Don't worry. They'll tell you.

Enter Google Glass. It's so high-tech, it renders this joke obsolete. You don't even have to ask about the Google Glass. It's just ... there.

In much the same way the internet enjoys reading about the internet and actors enjoy films about actors, Google Glass "explorers" seem to enjoy talking about being Google Glass "explorers."

And so, tonight, marks the inaugural San Francisco Google Glass "Speaker Series," in which a trio of folks with strange eyewear  “will share their adventures with Glass over the past year.”

If you're feeling especially pissed-off this afternoon, head down to the Civic Center at 4 p.m. where other folks seething over the Ferguson shooting will be gathering in observance of National Day of Rage

Anonymous, the shadowy hacktivist group, resurfaced this week in the face of the Ferguson shooting where Officer Darren Wilson shot and killed Mike Brown, an unarmed teenager. The group released a video calling on Americans to "get off their couches" and rage against "the actions of police and their commanders."

The U.S Department of Homeland Security issued warnings this afternoon about this call for rage, which is to take place in 37 cities across the nation, San Francisco and Oakland included.

Posted By on Thu, Aug 21, 2014 at 1:23 PM

This is probably the closest thing we could find to a modern day re-enactment of our favorite Hitchcock movie The Birds, minus the killer suspense and Tippi Hedren, of course.

Still, this YouTube video of a blackbird bullying unsuspecting pedestrians in Golden Gate Park is exciting enough to get us through our work today. Although the pedestrians appear to be minding their own damn business, that's not exactly how this Brewer's Blackbird perceives it. Watch:

Turns out all the sad press black cats got leading up to Black Cat Appreciation Day earlier this week struck a chord with a sensitive someone who also happens to have a nice chunk of change (your favorite kind of person!).

The Peninsula Humane Society was handing out free black cats over the weekend in honor of Black Cat Appreciation Day, a holiday aimed to undo stereotypes of black cats and show just how lucky they really are. The campaign worked so well that it not only found homes for 14 black cats, but it inspired an anonymous donor to drop the shelter enough cash to extend the black cat giveaway through the end of the month.
