Dick Runner: Q&A with Claire Wyckoff, the San Francisco Woman Who Draws Dicks With Nike+

Posted By on Thu, Aug 7, 2014 at 2:00 PM

Why yes, that is a giant dick over Cole Valley; and it took runner, and San Francisco resident, Claire Wyckoff just a hair over 48 minutes to create. Using Nike+ to create art out of her runs, she's been posting the masterpieces to her blog: Running Drawing. Her works of running art include Space Invader, Slimer from Ghostbusters, and everyone's favorite: dicks. Her Instagram account says she's "just trying to save the world."

SF Weekly recently caught up with Wyckoff to discuss her process, aspirations and whether life dick-tates art, or art dick-tates life.

How long have you been running?

I’ve been running off and on for the last 10 years. I run more when I feel fat. Less when I don’t feel fat.

Why do you draw shapes when you run?

It just seemed funny. And I think there’s something great about using things for the opposite of what they were intended for. I don’t think Nike intended for dicks. That’s funny to me.

Jeremy Meeks, the alleged gangster who has stolen the hearts of women worldwide ain't playin': He now has his own action figure.

The doll measures just 12 inches tall, but has a "fully articulated body with 34 points of articulation." It comes with black boots and an orange jumpsuit; however, the Stockton man's tattoos are absent.

Custom action figure company, That'sMyFace, is responsible for bringing the lifelike felon toy into existence; they've also contacted Meeks's agent in order to try and garner permission to sell the dolls to the hot felon's ever-growing fanbase.

Besides the doll, Meeks, 30, also landed a $30,000 modeling contract with talent agent, Gina Rodriguez last month, after gained international fame when the Stockon Police Department posted his mugshot, which has since gone viral. But let's not forget, he was arrested on suspicion of felony gun possession.

San Francisco of Yesteryear, on Film

Ch-ch-ch-changes!
  • Ch-ch-ch-changes!
In our current edition, your humble narrator tracks the changes that have taken place in this city, one Dirty Harry shoot-em-up site at a time. The diner in which Clint Eastwood's hard-boiled cop perforates three robbers before telling the fourth to "Go ahead. Make my day" will soon be a 10-story luxury hotel. The warehouse in which mad-wild revolutionaries murder people and stock up on deadly weapons is now a tech bus depot.

The city has changed, it would seem.

And so, the nostalgic website The Retroist today disseminated the following video of San Francisco tourists doing their thing in 1986. No, there's no plot. There's no drama. It's just a bunch of people in Reagan-era clothes clinging to McKinley-era cable cars, and dodging Carter-era automobiles.

And, you know, sometimes that's enough:

Kink Considers Moving to Nevada to Avoid Condom Legislation, Is Hit With New Complaint

The legal battle between local porn company Kink.com and the AIDS Healthcare Foundation over whether porn performers should be required to use condoms on-set has dragged on since January, when complaints filed by AHF with California's workplace safety agency, Cal/OSHA, resulted in $78,710 fines against Kink

Since then, the fight has gotten personal. Kink founder and CEO Peter Acworth has painted a David-and-Goliath narrative in a series of blog posts: He's just a regular guy, a small business owner, and AHF is refusing to negotiate, instead using any means necessary to push him out of business. AHF president Michael Weinstein has, in turn, portrayed Acworth in a series of press releases as a lawless, reckless capitalist who risks performers' lives to obtain his perfect money shots.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
