At least one pedestrian is clinging to life this morning after a driver fleeing the police blew a red light and crashed into a taxi cab as well as two people walking in the Tenderloin.
The craziness started at about 10:18 p.m. when police attempted to pull over the driver for a traffic violation at Larkin and Post streets. Instead of obeying orders, the driver hit the gas pedal and fled, says Officer Albie Esparza.
However, the cops didn't chase the vehicle; two blocks later, the speeding driver ran a red light and collided with a taxi cab. "The impact of the collision sent the vehicles into the sidewalk and two pedestrians were struck [at] Post and Jones streets," Esparza says.
The driver got out and ran from the crime scene. He was later taken into custody after he boarded the 38 Geary bus, police say.
The taxi driver and a passenger in the cab were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Both pedestrians were injured, with one suffering life-threatening injuries. The second pedestrian is still being evaluated.
The suspect vehicle was reported stolen. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact SFPD anonymously at (415)575-4444.
