Three San Franciscans desperate for easy parking were arrested on suspicion of forging doctor's notes to score handicap placards so they could freely park around town.
Guobin Qin, 29, Qiaoyun Chen, 50, and Yessi Morales, 35, were hauled to jail last week after all three suspects allegedly filled out false paperwork with the DMV in attempt to steal parking places from disabled drivers, District Attorney George Gascón announced today.
"It's absurd that so many are willing to perjure themselves to steal parking spaces from the disabled," said Gascón. "Those fraudulently utilizing handicapped placards and parking spaces are on notice -- they can be held criminally liable."
Now that the World Cup is over, San Franciscans from all walks of life are expressing relief that they can stop faking an interest in soccer.
"We try so hard to seem more global than the rest of America," said Mayor Ed Lee, tossing his FIFA World Cup hat into the blue recycling bin. "But every four years they make it so damn hard."
Local tech entrepreneur David Rogan agreed. "I have a great idea for disrupting soccer: Pick up the ball with your damn hands. But for some reason if I say that on Twitter, 50,000 South Americans flame me, so I have to pretend to be all interested, and 'like' game highlight videos.' Thank God it's over."
This weekend marked a "super moon" sighting. And, next month, there'll be an even more super super moon.
San Jose's medical marijuana industry is in big trouble. About 70 of the cannabis dispensaries in Northern California's largest city could start closing in four days under onerous new zoning rules passed by the City Council last month.
To stop that, marijuana activists need to go to the ballot. And to get voters excited about saving weed businesses in San Jose, activists are giving away free weed.
About 100 pounds of it, to be exact. Also on tap, free of charge: the medical marijuana recommendations required to smoke it all. All you need to do is sign a petition.
Usually, it's idiots we see on BART (you know who you are). But today, we present you with a creative BART passenger who found a cheap and sanitary way to get a seat on the train.

Remember back in December when those fastidious urban farmers were booted from a parcel of land in the Western Addition to make way for new housing?
Well, that 100-unit apartment complex never came.
Work on the low-income housing was supposed to begin in late 2013 or early 2014, according to St. Paula's Lutheran Church, which is also being constructed on the new site on Gough and Eddy streets. As of today, there's been no construction, because the plans to build are stuck in a city backlog.
