Driver Forgets to Put Car in Park, Hits 3-Year-Old Boy and Elderly Man

A 3-year-old boy and a 75-year-old man are in critical condition today after a driver accidentally plowed into the two pedestrians as they walked along a Telegraph Hill sidewalk this weekend.

According to police, the boy and the elderly man were strolling along the 1900 block of Grant Street at about 4:30 p.m. on Saturday when a driver in an gray Acura pulled up his car to park.

The driver had successfully scored a spot in neighborhood but forgot to put the car in "park."

"The driver lifted his foot off the brake, the vehicle jumped the sidewalk, and the vehicle struck both victims," police said.

The two pedestrians were taken to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening chest wounds. The driver is cooperating with police.
