An unidentified man was gunned down in the city's Mission District amid the the Friday morning commute.

Officer Albie Esparza says multiple calls came in just after 9 a.m. regarding a shooting at 15th and Mission streets. When police arrived they found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.

He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he later died.

The shooter fled the scene in an unknown direction.

"At this point investigators are canvassing the neighborhood hoping to find surveillance or witnesses," Esparza tells us. "Because it happened at 9 a.m. people are going to work so we're hoping we can obtain witnesses and information that would develop leads."

The Medical Examiner's Officer has not yet identified the victim.
