Prepare yourself for some pretty painful transit delays this morning after BART was forced to bring trains to a screeching halt just before 7 a.m.
According to Alicia Trost, spokeswoman for BART, police found one of the doors leading to the transit tunnel open at Lake Merritt. BART police asked the control center to hold trains for at least 10 minutes while they inspect the tunnel to make sure nobody was down there.
As a result, trains are running behind with delays up to 30 minutes. Trost says.
"It's a precautionary measure -- we want safety first to ensure nobody has entered one of the tunnel areas," Trost says.
