Posted By on Tue, May 13, 2014 at 3:42 PM

You might recall news of a body that was discovered inside of a parked car around the Inner Mission back in January. The identity of the man remained a mystery for four months while the Medical Examiner's Office investigated the case.

But today, the San Francisco Medical Examiner's Office has identified the body as 21-year-old Richard Whalen. Authorities could not confirm his place of resident or the cause of death.

Whalen's body was found by University of California police officers inside a vehicle parked along17th Street and Treat Avenue around 12:30 p.m. on January 25.

Although details are slowly surfacing, police are still investigating to determine whether or not Whalen's death was the result of a crime.
