Earlier this week, BART unveiled its new fleet of cars that's supposed to make your overall commuting experience a hell of a lot better. Passengers got the first chance to step inside the new trains and see what they look, feel, and smell like.
Unfortunately, we didn't make it out there (though we are avid BART riders and are curious). But based on this 2-minute clip from BART, the whole world is pleased. Somehow, the transit agency managed to edit out the protesters that were out there, demanding BART change the current design. Specifically, it was BART passengers with disabilities who claim the new handhold poles in the entry ways of the new cars are impeding their ability to ride the trains.
In any event, here's a glimpse inside the new fleet:
If you've had a downer of a week, this should make you crack a small smile.
Local yarnbombers and sisters Jill and Lorna Watt have decorated benches down at the Ferry Building with about 3 miles of acrylic yarn, crafting adorable cartoon-esque monsters who will provide you at least a two minutes of entertainment.
The Watt sisters have officially named the bench warmers "buttmunches" for obvious reasons. Look at the photo below. We emailed with Lorna who explained the work and logic behind the Ferry Building buttmunchers, which went up on Tuesday.
San Francisco police are looking for two men who stabbed a dog to death during a robbery in the city's Mission District early this morning.
According to police reports, a 20-year-old man was walking with his pup near 22nd and Bartlett streets at about 3 a.m. when two men confronted him. One of the guys grabbed the dog while the second man pulled out a knife.
The Alliance For Walking and Biking just released a monster of a report that looks at just about every statistic that you could gather on walking and biking in the city. And guess what: San Francisco actually has one of the lowest rates of cyclist fatalities, and one of the highest rates of commuting by wheels or feet, according to the Alliance. (Apparently, studies like this one from California Bike Coalition are outdated).
But one disappointment that was confirmed: San Francisco doesn't fund enough pedestrian and bike-friendly projects.
The 16-year-old girl who was found in a North Berkeley neighborhood naked and screaming for help may have been kidnapped in San Francisco.
Officer Gordon Shyy confirmed news reports that the San Francisco Police Department has taken over the case as the lead investigators, presumably because the original crime occurred in San Francisco.
SFPD told KTVU that investigators received the case Thursday morning. However, they've not interviewed the teen yet.
San Francisco police are looking for a man who reportedly ambushed a woman as she walked through Lowe Pac Heights earlier this week.
According to police reports, the victim was walking along the 2400 block of Pine Street at 11:30 p.m. on April 13 when a man jumped out from the bushes and punched her in the face. The guy the grabbed her buttocks.
