Obviously, the family cat is the only tame one in this domestic dispute.

A Daly City man will spend the next seven months behind bars after he admitted to biting both of his parents during a violent fight over the family cat.

Yevgeniy Bolshakov, 26, reportedly pleaded no contest to felony assault charges in exchange for the jail time. Once released from jail, Bolshakov will be on probation for three years, District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.

Report: Private Prisons Incarcerate More Blacks, Latinos By Design

A new report confirmed what many of us already know: Blacks and Latinos are jailed at rates far exceeding that of whites, a fact that, sadly, doesn't come as a surprise.

But this is California where we have roughly 11,000 inmates housed in private prisons. And it turns out racial disparities are prolific in private prison-industrial complexes.

Of the inmates housed by the California Department of Corrections, 76 percent are black or brown. Contrast that with the prison inmates outsourced to privately owned prisons in Arizona, Oklahoma, and Mississippi where 89 percent of them are black or brown.

Waterfront Height Initiative: Jon Golinger Calls off his "Political Theater" ... UPDATE: Judge Keeps Measure on Ballot

Update, 4:40 p.m. SF Weekly has learned that Judge Marla Miller made her ruling, opting to keep Prop. B on the June ballot.

Original story: Yesterday, a judge heard arguments regarding whether or not we'll ever get to vote on Proposition B -- which would, subsequently, require us to vote, again and again, on each and every major waterfront development project.

That's kind of a big deal. But that's not the subject of much feverish coverage du jour in the ongoing Waterfront War. Instead, all attention was focused on the clever -- too clever as it turned out -- maneuver pulled off by the chief backer of the waterfront height-limit measure.

Jon Golinger, up-and-coming North Beach political kvetch, employed a stunt usually reserved for the city's Libertarians and Republican Looney-Tunes: He submitted dozens of missives "against" the measure he was actually in favor of, essentially ensuring his message would be selected by the Department of Elections to be the "official argument" against Prop. B. (his "rebuttal" to his own measure: "Who really doesn't like B? Greedy real estate interests. Don't B fooled by them.").

That, as Shakespeare would put it "is an old device." The aforementioned Libertarians and Looney Tunes have been pulling this off for decades. But, this time, it sparked rancor and front-page fulminations about unethical behavior. Supervisor Scott Wiener will today introduce legislation attempting to outlaw this practice.

For Golinger and his side, it's not a good look. So, he tells us, he's giving up the game. This morning he submitted a letter to the Department of Elections rescinding his dozens of submissions.

Everyone can breathe easy now.

There's an app for that
  • There's an app for that

You know how you love to snap images and videos of all the nefarious activities on BART -- people humping and running around naked? Well, BART's hoping you'll channel that voyeuristic energy into helping them catch crooks.

BART is offering up a new free app to all riders which will make it easy for everyone to report crimes in real-time. With the new app, passengers can snap photos of suspicious items or activities or other safety hazards -- like drunks on the tracks -- along the BART system.

A very conspicuous bike thief is pedaling around town.

On Sunday morning, a man was riding his bike on the 1100 block of Market Street when he came to a stoplight. Being the law-abiding biker that he was, he came to a full stop, only to be hit by a crime.

According to police, a woman, only described as a black female between 25 and 30 years old -- ran up to the man while yelling that that was her bike.

CBS News published this harrowing video this morning showing a man who nearly got killed after darting out in front of a express train last month.

The video captured the February incident at the Redwood City Caltrain Station during the morning commute. Needless to say, this 1:30 video is a good life-lesson for daring pedestrians who think they're skilled at cheating death.

Fortunately, this guy didn't get killed, but it was a damn close call.

Watch the nail-biting moment at 1:07 mark:

You know what's missing from the Castro? Queer crosswalks.

Fortunately, San Francisco is getting a jumpstart on out-gaying Salt Lake City this year with a new streetscape project that, among other things, will include a rainbow-colored crosswalk.

Not that the colorful neighborhood needed more color.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
