An hour-long power outage at the San Francisco International Airport BART station has created a wave of delays across the entire transit system.
The power outage happened just before 4 p.m., forcing operators to run the trains manually, which caused significant delays for the afternoon commute, according to BART.
Seven months after saving a large flock of factory farm hens from sure death, the East Bay group Animal Place has hatched plans for another mass rescue.
This time, some 1,800 menopausal red hens seek asylum from a Chico egg farm that's going out of business, according to an Animal Place spokesman. He says the organization has managed to get Sonoma Humane Society on board, but plans can only move forward if they find people to adopt each chick.
Activists claim that most industrial poultry farms treat their hens as egg-laying machines, and exterminate them after egg production slows down. That usually happens at 12-18 months, at which point the hens are gassed and summarily replaced.
Sadly, anyone who eats omelettes, or egg salad, or any other kind of chick ovulatory offal is an accomplice to this poultry industrial complex.
San Francisco police are looking for three guys who attacked a trio of men in the Tenderloin on Sunday, leaving one of the victims in critical condition.
Officer Albie Esparza tells us that on Sunday at about 2:30 a.m, the three victims were hanging out in front of a pizza place on the 400 block of Ellis Street when they got into a verbal altercation with another group of men.
One of the suspects pulled out a sharp object and stabbed one victim in the side of the head and sliced another victim's throat.
The warring parties contesting San Francisco's nascent Waterfront Right-to-Vote initiative have told it to the judge.
Hands down, this is the dumbest form of fare evasion we've yet to see.
Who knows what this local cyclist was thinking when he decided to hop aboard the front of the J train to hitch a ride through Dolores Park. Perhaps, it was a practice run for a Darwin Award?
While researching the ability for traditional Chinese herbs to combat modern diseases, California Pacific Medical Center scientist Garrett Yount and his colleagues had a breakthrough: cancer cells could be weakened and shrunk and healthy cells left undisturbed when subjected to a compound found in a common plant.
This was in 2005. Despite the meaning of the discovery -- that there could be a healthier alternative to body-ravaging chemotherapy and radiation treatments for cancer -- there hasn't been much follow-up research. Because, of course, the plant is cannabis, and marijuana is federally illegal.
That means no research, and no advancing science.
Of all the awesome things you can get on Craigslist -- dirty panties, leftover pizza, and toe-sucking roommates -- your stolen bike is by far the best find.
A local BART rider was pretty stoked to find her $900 bike for sale on Craigslist, enough so that she formed a plan to get her ride back and nab the crook while she was at it.
Here's what happened:
Medical authorities have identified the body that washed up in Pacifica on Friday as 48-year-old Uma Keshavan of San Francisco.

A woman in her 60s was hit last night by a driver who was cruising through the Sunset District without a license to drive.
Sgt. Eric O'Neal says police were called out to the intersection of Ulloa and 39th avenues at about 9:45 p.m. on reports of an injured pedestrian. When police arrived, they found the victim -- who was only described as a woman in her 60s -- who had been hit by a car as she walked through the crosswalk.
