San Francisco police are now trying to find out whether the anti-canine crook has struck again. According to news reports, police found more suspicious treats that appeared to be meatballs, but were actually clay balls made to look like meat.
But given the fact that 32 real poisonous meatballs were found in the city yesterday, the cops weren't taking any chances. According to Deb Campbell, spokeswoman for Animal Care & Control, police gathered the clay treats to investigate.
The faux meat treats were spotted in front of an abandoned church on Clay and Larkin streets early today. Although the clay balls were not made from meat, police are still planning to test them to determine if they were laced with any poison, according to KGO.
Yesterday, 32 suspicious meatballs were located in the Richmond and Twin Peaks neighborhoods. Police say those meatballs looked similar to the ones found last summer which were laced with enough strychnine to kill a human.
All the meatballs found thus far had been left in bushes and other places dogs are known to frequent, leading police to believe the dangerous treats were left out to sicken or kill our local pups. Sadly, a dachshund named Oskar devoured a meatball and last July and died.
Yesterday, Timber, a grizzled Border Collie/Labrador mix, became sick after devouring a poisoned meatball on a trail in Twin Peaks neighborhood. The pup is recovering at home today, according to KTVU.
