A convicted sex offender who recently attacked a police officer in Montana is on the run -- and federal authorities believe he may have been seen in the Bay Area as recent as last week.
KGO is reporting that Kevin Anthony Briggs, was spotted in San Francisco, Oakland, and Berkeley and may be working in the area.
"Kevin Briggs has worked in hotels before, he's worked in landscaping, so he could be working for money to be traveling to Mexico, Oregon, Washington state..." FBI spokesman Peter Lee told the news station.
According to KRON4, Briggs was arrested in Bozeman, Montana on Feb. 1, 2014 after allegedly trying to strangle a woman. He then allegedly attacked a police officer as they were en route to jail. He somehow managed to escape and fled.
Authorities say Briggs bought a bus ticket from Missoula, Montana to Spokane, Washington. That's the last anyone saw him until the Bay Area sightings, according to KRON4.
At the time of his arrest, Briggs was on probation for 2004 convictions of rape, kidnapping, and burglary. He is considered armed and dangerous.
Briggs is between 5-foot-5 and 5-foot-7, and weighs between 120 and 150 pounds. He has brown hair, hazel eyes, a sunburst tattoo around his right nipple, a tattoo in his armpit and a tattoo on his lower lip. He wears a double "snake bite" piercing on his bottom lip and has a bellybutton piercing and pierced ears. He was last seen wearing gray sweatpants, a dark-colored hooded jacket or parka, black shoes, and a dark baseball cap, KRON 4 reports.
If you spot this guy, don't approach him, obviously. Just call 911 ASAP.
