Stop lamenting the fact that you have no Romeo or even plans with friends tomorrow night, and just look at this lovable penguin with a Valentine clinched in his beak.

A biologist at the California Academy of Sciences this morning kicked off Valentine's Day 24 hours early in the animal kingdom when he handed out heart-shaped treats to the resident African penguins.

Visitors wrote affectionate messages on the Valentines, which the (love) birds reportedly took back to their nests. No word on whether those Valentines led to any penguin hookups.

Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
