But be sure to look all ways before crossing the street to get there or else ...
A bunch of community groups, including Walk SF and the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, are planning to rally outside City Hall tomorrow afternoon to make noise about the out-of-control pedestrian collisions as of late.
The rally will take place at noon, an hour before the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency board meets. The walking and cycling populations in San Francisco are urging the city to sign off on a "Vision Zero" plan which sets the ambitious goal of eliminating pedestrian fatalities in 10 years.
If you want to distinguish yourself and earn a bit of notoriety with a story about this city's "eviction crisis," there are two ready ways to proceed: A. Claim you're in favor of it, or; B. Claim it doesn't exist.
Marijuana legalization is all over the media today, even more so than usual. Some of this is thanks to the NFL, because, yes, the Super Bowl will be played between two teams with home games attended by people legally stoned.
Little of that matters now, thanks to Richard Sherman the president. In an interview conducted a few months ago, published this weekend in The New Yorker, Barack Obama sent the entire federal government screeching forward on drug policy when he said that marijuana isn't more dangerous than alcohol -- and "not very different" from cigarettes.
During Sunday's NFC Championship Game, Muni took the preemptive measure of pulling cable cars, trolleys, and electric buses off the street in anticipation of riotous Niners fans celebrating a trip to the Super Bowl via destruction of municipal property.
Officials at the San Francisco Sheriff's Department are trying to sniff out a mysterious "Captain Andy Gore" who cold-called at least 10 hapless people last week, claiming they'd be arrested unless they coughed up $500.
At least one person got duped, and shelled out the money, Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Susan Fahey says, heeding Gore's instructions to purchase a pre-paid MoneyPAK card and submit the PIN number.
So if the strange captain calls you, don't open your wallet for him.
For reasons unbeknownst to us, people love to steal plants in San Francisco. And with what little greenery we have to enjoy here, it's not wonder people get so peeved.
So here we go again: Another plant thief recently descended upon San Francisco, snatching potted plants, including trees and flowers, from the sidewalk gardens along Walter Street.
According to neighbors, the thief is "selective" in his plant pilfering. He doesn't just take the garden variety of plants, rather he digs up and tarps up the loveliest and priciest plants he can find.
It appears some neighbors have caught the guy in action -- on camera. Watch:
Remember how pissed you were when the city decided to start charging drivers to park at meters on Sundays -- the one day of parking freedom?
Well, that's kinda how transit people feel about Mayor Ed Lee's recent call undo all that and let everyone enjoy free parking on Sundays again. The Transit Riders Union has started a petition opposing the Mayor's opposition to metered parking on Sundays.
According to the petition, giving drivers a financial break on the Sabbath means transit riders will be paying the price. Here's the letter explaining this logic:
It wasn't a great weekend for San Francisco. Aside from the 49ers losing a spot at the Super Bowl, the cops were busy dealing with people shooting and stabbing each other.
An unidentified man is clinging to life after he was stabbed near San Francisco's Embarcadero Sunday morning. According to press reports, officers were called out to the Embarcadero near Folsom Street at about 1:45 a.m. where they found a man in his 20s with multiple stab wounds to his chest.
