Man in Car Shot Multiple Times in SOMA (Update)

Update 9:30 a.m.: The 22-year-old man who was gunned down while riding in a car this morning has died. Police say the man was in a Toyota Camry near the Bay Bridge when another driver pulled up and fired multiple shots at the car. The driver in the victim vehicle sped off and crashed into something near Third and Brannan streets.

Original Story 7:22 a.m.: An unidentified person is clinging to life today after being gunned down in the city's SOMA neighborhood early this morning.

Sgt. Danielle Newman says at about 4:30 a.m., police were called to Third and Bryant streets on reports of gunfire near the Bay Bridge onramp. When police arrived, they found the victim -- who was reportedly a passenger inside a car -- had been shot several times.

He/she was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries. As of 7 a.m., police had no updates on the victim's condition, nor did they have any suspect information.

Meanwhile, investigators have been combing the crime scene, looking for evidence and witnesses.
