Bay Bridge Closure: Now for Your Guide to Riding the Ferry

Posted By on Thu, Aug 22, 2013 at 3:22 PM

Not a shabby commute - FLICKR/DECLAN MCALEESE

Earlier this week, we gave you a simple guide on how to get around by BART while the Bay Bridge is closed. But if you were hoping to continue disengaging from all that public transit drama -- naked acrobats, seat sex, shootings, stabbings, peeing drunks -- for a ride with some much-needed fresh air, then we suggest taking the ferry.

Fortunately, like BART, there will be expanded service to accommodate everyone's need to continue working and playing without a hitch. Unlike BART, you won't get 24-hour service on the ferries, but you will get some gorgeous perspectives of San Francisco and a nice alcohol buzz, if you want.

So here's the key things you need to keep in mind if you plan to ride the ferry during the Bay Bridge blackout:

  • There will be expanded service on the Vallejo, Alameda Main Street, Oakland, Harbor Bay, and SF routes (more ferries!)

  • The South San Francisco /East Bay route will operate regular weekday schedule, including the SSF to San Francisco excursion service on Friday, Aug. 30.

  • There will be direct service between Alameda Main Street and San Francisco, and direct service between Oakland and S.F. Normally Alameda, Oakland and SF are served with one boat, but this week, there will be more.

The Weekend/Holiday service will go into effect on Saturday, Sunday, and Labor Day, August 31 - Sept. 2. Here's some changes for that weekend:

  • There will be extra service from Harbor Bay, Alameda Main Street, and Oakland

  • Vallejo will operate regular weekend schedule

  • There will be Angel Island service from Vallejo, Alameda Main Street, and Oakland on Saturday, Sunday and Labor Day

Check out the full Ferry schedule and times.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
