Man and Woman Beaten in the Mission

Posted By on Thu, Nov 1, 2012 at 3:20 PM

It hasn't been very safe in the Mission lately. A wave of violence, in seemingly unrelated incidents, is plaguing the area.

Most recently, a man and woman were beaten up yesterday afternoon after allegedly being attacked on a crowded Muni bus.

The bus was in the 2300 block of 16th Street when the pair were confronted by a group of five people; one of the strangers knocked the 19-year-old woman to the ground and started kicking and punching her, according to the SFPD. The male victim tried to intervene, but was then attacked himself.

The pair got off the bus and called the police, who were then able to track down the bus and nab the attackers at 23rd and Potrero streets, says Officer Gordon Shyy.

The woman was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, while the man was treated at the scene.

Their attackers were charged with attempted robbery (for trying to steal the pair's cell phone) and assault.

In response to the recent increase in violence, the SFPD has deployed its violence reduction teams and gang task force to the area.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
