CHP Officer Shot in East Bay, Freeway Closed (Updated)

(Update 2:22 p.m.): Police met with reporters about 20 minutes ago, confirming that they have found the 1998 black Nissan Maxima that was wanted in connection to this morning's shooting of a CHP officer. Now CHP is searching for 35-year-old Daisi Garcia, who they believe is associated with the vehicle. The highway was still closed as of 1 p.m., according to press reports.

(Update 9:55 a.m.): Officer Elon Steers tells us the CHP officer who was shot has been taken to John Muir Hospital and is in critical condition. The suspect is also in serious condition. The freeway is still closed. Check back later for updates.

: A California Highway Patrol officer has been shot on Highway 680 during morning rush hour.

According to press reports, the cop was shot after he exchanged fire with a suspect on the highway in Alamo. The suspect was wounded, but no word on the officer's condition.

The clogged freeway has been closed down and the southbound lanes of Highway 680 were being forced to exit at Livorna Road.
