(Update, 11 a.m.): Police said they found Sierra LaMar's purse with her clothing "neatly folded" inside near the intersection of Laguna and Santa Teresa in Morgan Hill. The new evidence was discovered on Sunday at 1 p.m., police told NBC. The clothes do not appear to contain evidence of a crime, nor have police confirmed that the clothes were the same ones LaMar was wearing the morning she was last seen. Check back for updates.
(Original story, 8:29 a.m.): Santa Clara Authorities told reporters this morning that they they have found an item related to 15-year-old Sierra LaMar, who has been missing since last Friday when she left her home to catch the bus for school.
Police have not disclosed what this item is, but they told NBC that it's enough to bring the FBI and other law enforcers back to Morgan Hill this morning to do another search of the area around LaMar's home and the surrounding properties.
Authorities are still unsure as to whether LaMar, a sophomore at Sobrato High School, ran away from home or if she was abducted on the morning of March 16. Until today, the only clue they had was her cellphone, which was found on a sidewalk near her home. The phone looked as though it had been tossed from a car, but it was intact, police said.
Anyone with information about Sierra or her whereabouts is asked to contact Santa Clara County Communications at (408) 299-2311. During business hours, tipsters can call sheriff's investigators at (408) 808-4500 or the anonymous tip line at (408) 808-4431.
