No better way to draw sympathy than to put on a hospital gown, right? Needless to say, protesters in San Francisco are getting creative with their campaign against Wells Fargo, the nefarious big bank that's screwed one too many homeowners out of their homes.
Occupy Bernal, along with the Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment and other pissed-off homeowners, are planning to dress up in hospital gowns today and march right over to Wells Fargo executive Lloyd Dean's office in Mission Bay, where they will demand the bank create a mortgage principal and interest reduction program for homeowners across the state.
Why hospital gowns? Because "foreclosures are making them sick!"
The protesters will meet at noon and carry 12-foot thermometers reading "Ills Fargo" to Dean's office on Berry Street. Follow us on Twitter at @TheSnitchSF and @SFWeekly
They are also demanding that Wells Fargo stop all foreclosure and eviction proceedings for nine months as the multi-state mortgage settlement is completed and relief reaches California homeowners.
This is not the first time occupiers have done something outlandish. As readers probably recall, protesters recently marched down to Wells Fargo CEO John Stumpf's home in San Francisco and delivered him a foreclosure letter of his own. The group then proceeded to have a mock election, to give the financier a little taste of humiliation.
And they aren't stopping here. Next week they will go to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, asking the group to support legislation and policy changes to deal with the ongoing foreclosure crisis in San Francisco. The campaign is also planning a major protest outside Wells Fargo's annual shareholder meeting later this spring.
Incidentally, marching in this cold, wet weather in loose-fitting hospital gowns could literally make protesters sick.
