Police are asking for the public's help in finding the man who attempted to kidnap an 8-year-old girl on her way to school in the Bayview on Monday morning.
According to police, the girl was on the corner of Oakdale Avenue and Keith Street, walking to Carver Elementary, when a man grabbed her from behind. He put his hand over her mouth and told the girl he picks out young children as his victims, police said.
The girl struggled, broke free of his grip, and ran inside the school to safety.
The suspect is described as an African-American man in his 30s, with a heavy build and distinctive short, dreadlock-style braids. He has a scar on his upper right cheek. He was wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans, and had a square-shaped earring in his left earlobe. He was also wearing a handkerchief over the lower part of his face.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Inspector Vince Repetto of the Sexual Assault Detail at 553-9117 or 553-1361. Citizens can also contact the SFPD Anonymous Tip Line at 575-4444, or text-a-tip to TIP411, referencing SFPD in the subject line.
