Therapist Accused of Hypnotizing Patient, Then Having Sex with Her

Posted By on Tue, May 31, 2011 at 2:30 PM

A Bay Area therapist who specializes in sexual assault and rape cases allegedly had sex with a patient while she was hypnotized.

SF Weekly
contacted lawyers for Angelina Rosiles, the plaintiff in the case, but they have not returned our phone calls. However, in a lawsuit filed in Alameda Superior Court last week, Rosiles says she was seeking psychological counseling from Matthew Lindgren, a marriage therapist at Oakland's Blackbird Family Therapy on May 18, 2009. He allegedly hypnotized her, told her to disrobe, then touched her breasts and genitalia.

He then had sex with her while she was in a hypnotic state, according to the lawsuit.

When Rosiles started therapy there, Lindgren and his supervisor, Ann Mulville with ABC Family Solutions, represented him as a skilled and "highly qualified" family marriage therapist.

"These representations were false," according to the claim. "The true facts were that Matthew Lindgren was an inexperienced, incompetent, and unethical therapist."

Rosiles, a Contra Costa County resident, says Lindgren abused his authority with "outrageous" sexual behavior. She said this fraud and sexual battery has caused her extreme emotional distress, anxiety, and humiliation. Lindgren has not returned phone calls or e-mails from SF Weekly. His Web site states that he is a licensed therapist who specializes in helping victims of rape, stalking, and sexual assault.

"I decided to become a counselor as a way of giving back to those who have helped me and as a way of creating meaning out of the loss of my own life," Lindgren says on his Web site bio.

UPDATE: The plaintiff for this case filed a request for dismissal, with prejudice, of the entire case and against all defendants, on July 30, 2015.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
