West Marin Citizens Against Smart Meters yesterday blockaded the only route into the remote village of Inverness, turning back trucks they claim were en route to install SmartMeters. Two of the protesters, Katharina Sandizell-Smith and Kristin McCrory, were arrested by Marin County Sheriff's Deputies.
PG&E spokesman Paul Moreno confirmed that the trucks, from Wellington Energy, Inc., are PG&E subcontractors installing SmartMeters.
Despite the assurances of PG&E and the California Public Utilities Commission,
opponents of the digitized SmartMeters claim they may be emitting dangerous radioactive waves.
Sandizell-Smith told
SF Weekly she's opposed to SmartMeters on three grounds: "Privacy -- I don't want to be watched all the time; health -- I want to see the peak pulse emissions from PG&E; and the under-the radar rollout -- they're installing them in our homes" ostensibly without permission. She says she was cited for impeding traffic and subsequently released.
