SF MOMA Accidentally Tells Losers They Won Art Award. Ouch.

SF MOMA knows how he feels

We all have our Larry David moments. (See above.) But institutions, too, can be guilty of cringe-inducing gaffes. And the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is apparently one such institution, according to a new report in the Bay Citizen.

Citizen Culture Editor Reyhan Harmanci writes that MOMA accidentally fired off a round of letters notifying unsuccessful finalists in the SECA Art Award competition that they had, er, won. Museum officials told Harmanci that "they deeply regretted the mistake and called the non-winners to explain the situation."

It appears that at least some artists were able to figure out they weren't victorious before breaking out the champagne. But, I mean, still. Ouch.

Incidentally, these are the real winners.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
