The Giants Cheer That Failed To Launch (VIDEO)

The two-note "Let's Go, Gi-ants!" dum-dum dumdumdum cheer has become almost a salutation in the streets this week -- randomly loosed by fans swarming AT&T park, streaming out of bars, erupting from merry costumed masses flocking to Castro Street for the Halloween festivities this weekend.
Multiple bandwagons are actually required for this year's epic team. Fans have donned the Panda hats. They've grown their beards. They've waved the red thongs. They haven't stopped believin'. Yet deep in the bowels of YouTube, one attempt at creating a fan phenomenon seems to have largely failed to get off the ground: the S-F-G "Official Rally Chant."

What's the S-F-G Official Rally Chant?  Well, it's a cheer that the instructors over at  FUNKMODE hip hop studio in Pleasant Hill created and posted on YouTube just last week.  The cheer is a bit like a sequence from an '80s aerobics video, forming your arms into an approximation of the letters, S, F, and G and then pumping your forearms across your chest shadowboxing style for four beats. The description they posted with the cheer shows some very high hopes for this baby hitting the big time:

Anytime the Giants make it even an inch closer to the goal of bringing home the crown, whether by a hit, home run, strike out, great play or a win, THIS is how you celebrate. We gotta do our part to help our San Francisco team bring home its first ever Major
League Championship. With this rally chant, we gonna light The Bay on FIRE!!!
Well, we're not sure it's actually lit the bay on fire: the video has only scored 2,505 views so far, and one commenter said "Good luck getting this to catch on."  The Funkmode dancers did the chant themselves outside AT&T park last Wednesday (the evidence is posted on Flikr) though no passerby seemed compelled to join in. Still, they seem undeterred, posting on their twitter feed: "FUNKMODE does THIS VERY CHANT @ ATT Park during the game. Final score: 11-7. Coincidence? NO WAY!"

Still, FUNKMODE's front man Mighty (just Mighty) and Cara Young (in the back right in the video) said that Giants fans have been cheering with them outside the stadium and posting photos of them online.

"If it would catch on with the crowd that would be the best, of course," Mighty says. "But we're performers so we're always looking for reasons to rally the fans up and get a crowd."

Well, you got to hand it to them for the effort. But, absent a revolution in the next hour, it looks like the "Official Chant" for this World Series continues to be the old "Let's Go, Gi-ants!" standby.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
