But this everyone would have saluted...
UPDATE: Top constitutional scholar says school on shaky legal ground in sending home students for wearing American flag clothing.
A quintet of students'
star-spangled sartorial sense got them the heave-ho from their High School yesterday. School administrators at Live Oak High School in
Morgan Hill, down the road from San Jose, perceived the clothing as being a provocation on Cinco De Mayo, a day when plenty of Mexican-American students came outfitted in red, white, and green.
Sure enough, a KTVU live report from the school this morning featured a man dressed as Uncle Sam and ululating to the heavens that "Patriotism is not a crime" -- making tiny Morgan Hill perhaps the latest front in the
War Against Christmas. Whoops, sorry, that was last year's big scare.
In any event, the potent combination of American patriotism, flag-waving
Mexicans, righteous teenagers, veiled agendas, and a 24-hour news cycle
will ensure many cameras will be pointed at little Morgan Hill, launching many a screed.
Best of all, everyone is literally wrapped in the flag.
