Hot or Not? Mark Morford, Melissa Griffin Change Column Photos

If San Francisco had a Hot Columnist contest, Mark Morford and Melissa Griffin would run away with the trophies. Griffin is a ball-breaking fox and Morford's blazing stare could set kindling on fire. Who could even attempt to compete? Columnists tend to be a pretty frumpy crew.

But if you've been paying attention lately, the King and Queen of Hot among the city's scribes have changed their image. For the worse, people!

First, Mark Morford, SF Gate's prolific rambling man on all things progressive. Morford is the embodiment of the San Francisco hottie, a man who posts sexy photos of himself doing yoga on his website categorized by "Presence," "Strength," and "Bliss."

I polled the SF Weekly editorial section, and we agreed that

while his old photo was a little dark and devilish, it was also kind of self serious and "douchey" with the yoga praying palms and all. "It's like 'I'm staring into your

soul,'" in the words of one staffer.

Yet SFGate

has now traded in the Morford devil-douche pic for a face-in-palm pose in which he looks

like he's waiting for Muni. It's too passive for Morford, too cliched.

Overall verdict: Yawn. Bring back the yoga hands.

Onto Griffin. I opened the Examiner yesterday and was slapped in

the face. No! The Examiner's sassy columnist who writes

up a play-by-play of city meetings has had a total school-marm makeover.

Gone was the Southern belle/City Hall ballbreaker with her smart lawyer outfit

and trademark hourglass figure. Every man I know is sort of in love with that picture, one even admiringly refers

to her as "Caderas," Spanish for "Hips." That lady was hot and she knew

Yet the Examiner traded in the Law and Order look

for Pleasant Hill housewife, a lady who wouldn't look out of place in a Shout

commercial rolling her eyes about how her kids get grass stains on

their soccer shorts.

Bring back Caderas!

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
