Wednesday, Oct. 7 - Budget and Finance Committee

Supervisor John Avalos, the chair of the budget committee, doesn't need a strobe light. John Avalos IS a strobe light: flashing the light of day upon the dark underworld of city finances, exposing inefficiency and corruption, then sending them to on to be voted into law.

Okay, obviously the system still has some kinks, but, I'm sure that somebody's working on it. Maybe there will be a rally.

This meeting kicks off with just about the most fun you can have at a budget meeting: a hearing on the city's "plan" (their word, not mine) to use federal stimulus dollars that are committed to transit systems. This hearing has been going on in one form or another since March: It's so nice the way that city government gives crazy people a chance to come and yell at each other about important topics for a while. It helps the economy, too, since a feeling of moral superiority can actually be used as currency in S.F.

Two of those stimulus projects -- to "rehabilitate" our light rail trains and buses -- are up before the committee today, too. So are some water system contracts, an emergency contract to replace sewers on Lexington Avenue,

Annnnnnnd we're done. Take it away, vitriolic internet commentators!

Portland will NOT turn city meetings into nights clubs before SF! That you could even think that shows you are part of the Military-Industrial-Oregon complex!

By legalizing pot, California can solve its deficit and keep old people off the streets! That's what the Catholic Church doesn't want you to know!

AlcoholWipe says:

If you potheads with your pot parties and your pot houses and your pot paraphernelia and your pot music don't stop smoking all that pot, you'll never get your life together!

YOU have the AIDS!

The problem isn't illegal immigrants: It's illegal immigrants!

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
