2007: Year of the Shooting, Stabbing

Posted By on Mon, Feb 25, 2008 at 9:21 AM

Shootings and stabbings have shot up in the past five years, according to an article in Saturday's Examiner. Over 440 patients admitted to SF General were shot or knifed, but the percentage of people who actually die from the wounds has decreased slightly. But don't get too excited. Rochelle Dicker, a trauma surgeon says of the higher survival rate, "Unfortunately, the sad part of having so much experience is you get really adept at what you do. [And] we're getting a lot of experience." Since 2003, the number of gunshot victims admitted to General has doubled. The number of repeat victims, however, has decreased significantly, from 35 percent to five. If somebody gives you a choice between being shot or being stabbed, common sense prevails: last year, 50 gunshot victims perished, while only five stabbing victims died. Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
