Artificial Sweeteners Make You Fat: Ohh, the Irony

Posted By on Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 10:17 AM

New Science Magazine reports that researches at Purdue University have discovered artificial sweeteners may contribute to weight gain. Two groups of lucky rats were served pudding, one sweetened with sugar and the other with sucrose or saccharin. (In a journalistic oversight, the article failed to mention whether rats were fed chocolate or vanilla and whether scientists cradled them in their arms and fed them with tiny spoons.) The rats who ate diet pudding not only put on more weight, they were more likely to go back for seconds. In turns out the sweetness of real sugar satisfies a natural craving that the fake sugars don’t, thus failing to tell you when you’re satisfied and you’ve had enough. Turns out you really are addicted to Diet Coke!-Andy Wright

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
