Plastic Bag Ban Takes Effect: Sometimes There's Just So Much Beauty In The World

Posted By on Mon, Nov 19, 2007 at 10:57 AM

Au revoir, plastic bags! I'll miss seeing you wave blissfully from the branches of trees, line my bathroom garbage can and clog storm drains. Yes, it's finally happened. Beginning tomorrow, big grocery stores will no longer be asking 'paper or plastic,' as the city's ordinance takes effect, and six months from now, pharmacies will follow suit.

Some, including Cala Foods and Safeway have already made the switch, offering low cost beach-bag type totes as a substitute.

In the immortal words of Ricky Fitts from American Beauty: "This bag was just dancing with me, like a little kid begging me to play with it ... sometimes there's just so much beauty in the world, I feel like I can't take it and my heart is just going to cave in."

I know how you feel Ricky. We all do.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
