@sk Jamie Varon: Why Are There So Many Douchebag Anonymous Commenters?

Posted By on Thu, Aug 12, 2010 at 10:27 AM

_skjamie_biobox.png
Dear Jamie,

I have a blog and I keep getting all these mean anonymous comments. Why do people write these? What's the point? How do I get them to stop? It's so annoying and rude!

Sincerely,

Anon

Dear Anon,

You see, anonymous commenters are the actual assholes of the internet. And, your blog must be mildly interesting or successful if you are having to endure the wrath of anonymous commenters, because the thing they hate the most is when someone might actually, you know, feel good about themselves.

@sk Jamie Varon: My Wife Won't Add Me on Facebook. Is She Cheating?

Posted By on Thu, Aug 5, 2010 at 12:27 PM

_skjamie_biobox_thumb_500x332_thumb_400x265.png
Dear Jamie,

My wife will not accept me as a friend on Facebook. She has my sister and several other of my family members on as friends, but not me. She does not even state that she is married on her profile. Should I be worried or have something to bitch at her about? Please advise. Thanks.

Sincerely,

Friendless in Fillmore

Dear Friendless,

I'm sorry to break this to you, but there are only one of two things at play here and both of them are shenanigans. Your wife is either taking a lover on the side or she is hoping to take a lover on the side. And, unfortunately, your family is in on it or, at the very least, supportive. This should really cut to the core of you, make you question your entire marriage, and force you to have unprotected and inappropriate sex with someone younger and hotter than your wife.

Ask @JamieVaron: Is the Internet One Big 'Free for All'?

Posted By on Thu, Jul 8, 2010 at 6:40 PM

_skjamie_biobox_thumb_350x232.png

Dear Jamie,

I know everything on the internet is public, but does that mean anyone can steal your content without giving credit? Is anything on your blog copyrighted? What about your tweets? I'm worried about putting my best work out there, because someone can just come along and pass it off as their own. Help!

Sincerely,

Narc in Nob Hill

Ask @JamieVaron: Should I Let the Person I'm Dating Have Access to My Phone?

Posted By on Thu, Jul 1, 2010 at 5:54 PM

_skjamie_biobox.png
Dear Jamie,

Should I let the person I'm dating have total access to my phone? I don't want anyone trying to read my texts and e-mails, so I put a password on my phone! Is that wrong?

Sincerely,

Private in Presidio

@sk Jamie Varon: Is it Okay to Tweet While My Wife is in Labor?

Posted By on Thu, Jun 24, 2010 at 6:35 PM

jamie.jpg

Dear Jamie,

My wife is due to have our baby any day now. When she goes into labor, I want to document the process in real time on Twitter, which I think would make compelling reading. That probably sounds horrible, but I'm a writer, and like many writers, my life often serves as material. I mean, how could I not write about one of the most dramatic things that will ever happen to me?

Of course, it's not just about me. While my wife usually supports my weird writing experiments, she's not so sure about this one. What do you think? Should I put the iPhone away during my son's birth, and not tweet?

@sk Jamie Varon: Is There Any Privacy On The Internet?

Posted By on Wed, May 19, 2010 at 1:27 AM

jamievaron_bio_thumb_300x199_thumb_375x248_thumb_350x232_1_thumb_350x232.png

Dear Jamie,

I heard about that girl from Harvard who had all her racist emails forwarded, then all my friends are pissed about Facebook and how we have no privacy. What's the deal? Can anyone forward my emails? Is Facebook allowed to have all my info? Do I have any reasonable expectation of privacy online?

@sk Jamie Varon: Should I Flirt With My Boyfriend on Social Media?

Posted By on Thu, Apr 22, 2010 at 9:12 PM

jamievaron_bio_thumb_300x199_thumb_375x248_thumb_350x232_1.png

Dear Jamie,

Is it okay to flirt with my guy on Facebook and/or Twitter? It's getting really hard to resist.

Sincerely,

Flirtless

--

Dear Flirtless,

Have you ever met that couple that are all over each other at a party and making out inappropriately? That couple who, all of a sudden, you look over and you wonder if they even know other people are existing in this world besides them? That couple where you want to be all, "GET A FUCKING ROOM" as you walk by them, so they will actuallt, you know, GET A FUCKING ROOM? That couple that makes YOU uncomfortable because you sit there wondering, "Is there penetration? There must be penetration. Now, that's just not right ..."

WE GET IT. YOU LIKE TO PUT YOUR PARTS IN EACH OTHER. GOT IT.

Yeah, that's how you are when you flirt with your boyfriend on Facebook or Twitter. It just makes us all awkward and kind of embarrassed for you. How insecure are you with your own relationship that you must publicly declare how you feel about each other spread across every single social network? You "<3" him on Facebook? Yeah, well, all of your friends think you guys are vomit-inducing.

Actually, wait, if you guys can be funny and witty with each other while flirting, then we may want to see that. Or, if you have an actual fight or are passive-aggressively mad at each other. Yeah, we like that. We like to make fun of you behind your back and take bets on when you two will either breakup or get married. Most bets are on the breakup. But, don't worry. People defy odds all the time. I'm sure you guys will live happily ever after. No, really. Just as long as you keep using Facebook and Twitter to prove to us all how much you love each other. That's true love right there. No, really.

Sincerely,

Jamie

@sk Jamie Varon: Is Starting a Facebook Fan Page a Good Idea?

Posted By on Thu, Apr 1, 2010 at 5:46 PM

jamievaron_bio_thumb_300x199_thumb_375x248_thumb_350x232.png

Dear Jamie,

I'm new to this whole blogging thing and I keep seeing that a lot of my favorite bloggers have started a Facebook fan page for themselves. Do you think this is a good idea? Should I be putting time into a fan page? And, if I start one, what do I do with it? Invite other people to be a fan and then post updates? I'm confused!

Sincerely,

Fanless

@sk Jamie Varon: What is the Point of Formspring?

Posted By on Fri, Mar 19, 2010 at 9:50 AM

jamievaron_bio_thumb_300x199_thumb_375x248.png

Dear Jamie,

I've been noticing that a lot of people are using this Formspring website. I've been thinking of starting one since everyone else is starting to incorporate it into their websites. What's the point of it and does it have any value at all?

Sincerely,

Questioning

@sk Jamie Varon: I Lied On My LinkedIn Profile

Posted By on Thu, Mar 4, 2010 at 11:00 AM

jamievaron_bio_thumb_300x199_thumb_375x248_thumb_350x232.png

Dear Jamie Varon,

I've been looking for a new job and inflated my resume andqualifications on my LinkedIn profile because I thought it could help me look attractive to other employers. The only problem is that I forgot that I'm connected to certain people in my company and now feel like it's really obvious I'm looking for a new job. I feel really guilty about it, but changing my profile again will only arouse further suspicions.

Best,

TooLinkedIn

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
