Today, June 7, would have been Prince's 58th birthday. But it's likely that the performer, who died on April 21, wouldn't have celebrated it anyways. In a 1999 interview for the Dutch television show "TROS," Prince made it clear that he's not a birthday guy.

"I don't celebrate birthdays," he said, "so that stops me from counting days, which stops me from counting time, which allows me to still look the same as I did 10 years ago."

And that's not the only time birthdays came up in interviews. In 1998, while getting interviewed by (of all people) Scary Spice, he repeated the refrain that he doesn't celebrate birthdays, maintaining that he would "celebrate the day [he] die[s]" instead.

Regardless, that didn't stop director Spike Lee from throwing an early bash for the musician last Saturday. Nor has that stopped Amoeba Records on Haight St. from celebrating the performer's life, as well.

Today, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., DJ Camille will spin solely Prince tunes at the store. The event is free and all-ages, so if you're a Prince fan, stop by to celebrate the Purple One's memory.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
