Friday night brings a big test for the beautifully renovated Swedish American Hall, when it hosts it's first electronic act for a sold-out evening.

L.A.-based producer, Tokimonsta, will be co-headlining with singer Gavin Turek and the two are more than familiar with each other. They've been frequent collaborators for almost five years and back in 2011 the pair produced one of my favorite tracks of all time in "Darkest (Dim)":

Turek has made multiple appearances on Tokimonsta releases and later this summer (8/28), the two will be releasing the joint EP, You're Invited. There's a certain symbiosis between the two artists, where every time Turek's sultry voice is placed alongside one of Toki's refined productions, it instantly creates it's own nostalgia that sends the listener into bliss on every subsequent spin. On "Hemisphere," the first single off of You're Invited, Turek told The Fader that “[Toki] made the emotion I felt truly come to life musically."

Turek's elegant vocals over Tokimonsta's melodic yet mature electronica will seem like a siren song of sorts, within the grand acoustics of the upside down viking ship-like Swedish American Hall. They're sound is a well-chosen one for this maiden voyage into electronica at the Hall, as it's balance and sophistication, are absent of the aggression that could tip the vibe to a strange place for the 330 person crowd.

Opening the evening is none other than SF's very own, Julia Lewis. The moniker of producer Ben Falik, who has been putting down some intriguing collaborations and remixes that warrant your attention.

Tokimonsta and Gavin Turek (presented by NoisePop) w/ Julia Lewis at Swedish American Hall, Fri July 31, doors 7:30 p.m. show 8:30 p.m.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
